Big Brothers Big Sisters received $5000 to assist in their efforts to create healthy readers, parental success, and school attendance through their Adopt-A-Class pilot program. This program matches all children signed up in specific 1st grade classrooms at Canyon Lake, Robbinsdale and Rapid Valley Elementary Schools with their own mentor to work one-on-one and become proficient in reading by the end of 3rd grade.

|Canyon Lake Elementary School, Literacy In Motion Program|

Canyon Lake Elementary School received $3,000 to assist with the "Literacy In Motion" pilot program. This program provides movement and mindfulness-based literacy intervention for K-5 students.
Retired teacher Pam Bonar with Peace and Motion Yoga/PAMY for Kids, leads kids through yoga each afternoon, four days of the week. She also weaves literature into the yoga adventure, encouraging students to act out characters and objects in the book. By incorporating mindfulness, movement, and an emphasis on developing a growth mindset, it is believed students will enjoy literature more, maintain focus during the school day, and develop a toolbox of skills that they can employ when stress threatens to interfere with their education.

|Early Childhood Connections, Starting Strong Program|

Early Childhood Connections received $6,900 to implement the "School Readiness Kit" into six of their Starting Strong Rapid City Programs: Saint Elizabeth Seton, Fit-N-Fun, YMCA of Rapid City, Banana Bunch Children's Learning Center, Dream Kids Preschool at Open Bible Christen Center, and Youth & Family Services Preschool and 158 families will be impacted through these six programs. This kit will enhance what is currently being offered to families and will improve their ability to support their child's education and help prevent Summer Learning Loss.

|BH Special Services "Ready School", General Beadle Elementary School|

General Beadle Elementary School developed and implemented an early childhood intervention program called "Ready School". This program serves students who have never attended a preschool or head start program prior to entering kindergarten. These children who aren’t quite ready for kindergarten do not demonstrate skills in letter or color recognition, concepts about printed text, number knowledge, and struggle with expressing thought orally or receptively. Furthermore, these students struggle with social emotional skills.
Black Hills Special Services received a $5,000 match to assist General Beadle Elementary School to continue this much needed program to help ensure children enter kindergarten ready to succeed.

WAVI received $2000 to create a children’s grade-level reading program within their shelter. WAVI's goal is to enrich each child’s educational needs while in shelter and this program will fulfill this crucial need. While in shelter, WAVI works to create a positive and healthy experience for the children and families they serve.

|YMCA of Rapid City, Early Learning Readiness Program|

YMCA of Rapid City received $5000 to help support their Early Learning Readiness program. This program provides family, friends, and neighborhood caregivers with information, resources, support, and connections to promote optimal development for the children in their care.
Early Learning Readiness is directed toward children ages 6 weeks to 5 years old, through learning centers that foster development, improve school readiness, and supports the skills and confidence of caregivers and also equips the caregivers to be their child's first teacher-ensuring children are ready to learn when starting kindergarten.

|Pennington County, Juvenile Diversion Program|

Pennington County Juvenile Diversion Program received $3100 to implement a two pronged approach towards improving attendance and decreasing tardiness through incentives and celebrations, as well as working directly with youth and families who have been referred to the States’ Attorneys’ Office for truancy. The SAO Truancy program will refer youth and families to programming and services which will address the challenges they face with regular school attendance and then reward their follow through on those programs with gift cards. Additionally, a youth could receive a gift card by self-improvement of their attendance.
